Trying to convert some old OGM movie files from 2007 to MP4 but conversion doesnt work. No error message, it just starts playing the actual movie file and an empty file is created.
Yes, the video checkbox is ticked.
Correction, it hid the error window and the actual error is " Streaming / Transcoding failed:
VLC could not open the mp4v video encoder."
How 2 fix?

Does the files is corrupted ? I have had the same problem with old movies from the same years, and the player (not VLC) stoped at specific points . i think you can try to check the health of
the files first, or choosing other file format destination. It would be my pleasure if I helped

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the conversion, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long.
