How to delete manually-added subtitle (*.srt, *.ass, etc) track

Postby traycerb » 24 Jun 2022 18:57

if you manually add a subtitle track (*.srt, *.ass), how can it be removed?

If you keep adding sub tracks, the list of available subtitle tracks just increases, and I'm hoping to delete the ones that are incorrect or outdated.

that's regarding hard-coded subtitles, those burned in as part of the video itself.

this is regarding subtitle tracks (srt) that can be turned off and on at will.

Say you accidentally add a subtitle track for the wrong language, say French. you can still switch the French subtitle off, and you can still add the correct language, say English.

But what it seems your can't do is to delete the subtitle track so it doesn't appear in the list of available subs.

I just pulled this image from the web, but see the extra subtitle tracks listed ("English forced", "English regular", etc). How can you delete those?

Well, if I close VLC and then open again the same video, then the manually added SRT subtitles are not remembered.
Maybe because I'm not using the VLC media library ?

Sorry, I thought that was what you meant.

When I add subs to movies I just use the "Add subtitles" and then navigate to where I've stored them on my laptop. Since they're not hardcoded the connection disappears as soon as vlc is restarted.

Here's a funny South Korean movie called "My Dear Desperado" : https://youtu.be/lfc0Ode8ZKc
I've uploaded the .srt subtitles for it to Zippyshare if you want to watch it yourself: https://www81.zippyshare.com/v/Hg0cPo99/file.html

Here's a pix of the movie playing:

After exiting vlc the Add Subtitle menu will return to default (blank) so I don't quite understand the problem.
