Low Volume

Postby BernardIE5317 » 16 Mar 2022 23:02

Whilst playing audio files e.g. i.e. to wit MP3, WAV, the output volume is exceedingly low, almost indiscernible. Volume on VLC is 100%. Output is fine via other player to wit i.e. e.g. Power Media Player.

Visualizations have the following result whilst play.
Spectrometer: constant, circle
Scope: constant, two straight lines
Spectrum: active, lots of jumping vertical bars
VU Meters: constant, both needles pinned at left

Kindly Advise Thank You

go to:
tools then preferences.
at the bottom left, click "all" under "show settings".
under "Audio", change "audio gain" to "1.00".
double-click to expand "output modules" located in the "audio" column.
for "directx", change "audio volume" to "2" (max), set "speaker configuration" to "stereo".
for "mmdevice", change "audio volume" to "1.25" (max).
for "waveout", change "audio volume" to"2" (max), set "audio output channels" to "2".
save the preferences, close vlc and then try playing your audio file.
i recommend turning the audio equalizer off if you have it on.

Volume on VLC is 100%. Output is fine via other player to wit i.e. e.g. Power Media Player.

Then the problem comes from your system. Check VLC volume in Windows mixer.

Greetings Kind Regards I followed all instructions. It did not help. The audio volume is still exceedingly low just as before. As for "Windows Mixer" I do not know what that is or where to find it as it is not in the Start List. Kindly Advise Thank You

Thank You for the Windows Mixer link. I set the Windows Mixer volume for VLC to maximum i.e. to wit 100. The output from VLC is still exceedingly low just as before.

One common reason for low volume is playing surround audio on stereo speakers but with the OS configured for surround speakers.

The only speakers in my system are via the monitor connected to PC. Whatever the OS configuration the audio output is fine via other players i.e. e.g. to wit Groove Music, Power Media Player, Media Player, all play successfully, only VLC is unsuccessful.

Try another audio output module:
https://wiki.videolan.org/WindowsFAQ-2. ... _anomalies

After the changes save the preferences then exit and restart VLC.

That said, I've never heard about low volume troubles being specific to VLC. So I'm still convinced there is something wrong in your system configuration.
