Make sure you are using VLC v3.0.16.
Close VLC then try to reset the preferences with the manual way (delete the whole %APPDATA%\vlc folder) and check if it helps:
https://wiki.videolan.org/VSG:ResetPrefs

Are you sure you have the lastest youtube.luac file installed? It was released on September 4 this year:
https://github.com/videolan/vlc/tree/ma ... a/playlist

To check properly on your own system hit Windows key + R to open the Run command and then copy/paste the following path and click OK.
C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\playlist

If you can't see the date which should be 04-09-2021 right click and change the "View" to "Details". That will reveal the date of the file in use.

Also, make sure you have the Windows setting: "Hide file extensions for known file types" unchecked. It should look like you see it in the image.

Highly unlikely, the main reason being that vlc is open source and because Google keeps changing youtube's configuration which requires yet another youtube.luac file to address the change. It's not something you can address with a new vlc release unless you happen to be psychic and can predict what Google will do next.

Bookmark the link to vlc Github master and then check it to see if there's been a new yt-luac file released if things go pear-shaped again ;)

Sorry blacknoise, I missed your post earlier.

To answer your question, Videolan maintains a repository on Github, the latter being a hub where developers make their software freely available. Github used to be independent, but was acquired by Microsoft a couple of years ago. The "Master" aspect is merely a container if you like where other branches fork out from. Nothing to get excited about though ;)

Just bookmark this site: https://github.com/videolan/vlc/tree/ma ... a/playlist and then check from time to time, or if you encounter problems with youtube to determine if the youtube.luac file has been updated recently. The current file is dated Sept 4, 2021.

If you click the youtube.lua link on that page it will take you to the one with the 635 lines of code. However, it doesn't show the date of the file when it was released which is why I linked to previous page.

That will be most welcome. I've had so many yt issues myself already that I primarily use yt-dlp to d/l videos these days.

A new youtube.luac file has been released October 20 which addresses the throttling problem Google introduced on youtube recently.

Code from creating the file: https://github.com/videolan/vlc/blob/ma ... outube.lua

For clarity this is the same link

Code: Select all

https://github.com/videolan/vlc/blob/master/share/lua/playlist/youtube.lua

Instructions to create the file: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 26#p483226

Hello.

Following up on this issue. If there was some resolution? From the date of this post, it seems that it was happening for a while. But as of 9/2021, it was able to use it flawlessly. Up until 2 weeks ago, I started experiencing these exact same issue(s) that you all are had/have....

Has anyone come across some type of resolution? I've already downloaded and installed the latest version of VLC. And it happens over multiple devices I have.

Thanks.

Please post a couple of URLs to youtube videos which don't play properly on your system.

One solution is two posts above yours:

unfortunately we've been to fast, with praise of the latest luac-version, what should rid of the throttling videos:
as we now experience something zero-effect: nothing works, screen simply remains black.

now we jumped to the version before again, so that works proper!
