soundfont (sf2 file) wiki page needs update and playback issue

Postby SkipR » 25 May 2021 22:17

Someone please update https://wiki.videolan.org/Midi/ it is extremely time wasting for an end user who just needs a clear link to the sf2 file (in my case for a windows machine just to playback typical MID and RMI files)

SoundFonts file
To playback MIDI files, you need a SoundFont file (with extension .sf2). You can download them from either of these two places:
SUGGESTED NEW TEXT
SoundFonts file
To playback MIDI files, you need a SoundFont file (with extension .sf2). You can download them from either of these two places:
Note: I still could NOT FIND sf2 file on github fluidsynth page (all I want is the wiki page to indicate more precisely where to find sf2 file on both sites)

Also, please consider adding a link to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWvbbVdJetU which I needed to understand where sf2 files were "buried"

Issue 2 - Stuttering issue because using zip file in playlist
While testing selection of files, I found a few MID or RMI files when in a zip container were stuttering every 8 to 12 sec when read from SMB file share, and the other MID or RMI files were ok. When I load same zip file from local disk all files playback with no issue. Unzip to local folder and those files with no issue in VLC. My Network is fine.

Has anyone else seen this problem?
Perhaps something needs to be tuned?

Why are you looking on Github? The Sourceforge .sf2 file seems to be the ideal candidate. Or just go to the link on the Sourceforge site at https://www.fluidsynth.org/
