Trying to Zoom or Enlarge the YouTube Video

Postby eager » 10 May 2021 22:00

I’m trying to watch an instructional YT video where the words on the screen are tiny.

I tried to Zoom to enlarge what I see on screen but in VLC Media Player the Tools and View do nothing to enlarge the screen so I can see a little better what the words or numbers are on screen are.

Here’s the video I’m trying to Zoom or enlarge.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=797GZYpxIbg&t=121s

Any solution using VLC or other program?

Thank you!

Hit Z to zoom in and Shift+Z to zoom out.

On the top toolbar click Tools ---> Effects and Filters ---> Video effects ---> Geometry and checkmark Interactive Zoom. That will double the size of whatever video you're watching.

Hitting Z and Shift Z does nothing.

Hitchhiker - yours did enlarge. If I want to make it even large or return to the smaller zoom what would you suggest?

Thank you kindly for al your help.

Disable Fit to window, and then select a different zoom ratio.

Hi Remi,

I only have 1/4, 1/2 1:1 and 2:1 Zoom options once I UN-check Fit to Window. None work well when I'm trying to watch a YT instructional video on using software as I only see a tiny section of the video or the a long view. Isn't there a way to use any of the arrow keys or some other way to quickly zoom in/out at any second instead of having to stop the video Click on View > Zoom and change the size? Thanks.

Thank you.

Is there any way to set the view as 1080p in VLC?
Thank you.

Here you go.
  1. Hit Ctrl + P to open preferences and click "All" at the bottom to open the Advanced menu.
  2. In the left hand pane click Input/Codecs.
  3. In the right hand menu set "Preferred video resolution" to "Full HD (1080p)" via the dropdown menu.
  4. Save, exit and restart vlc.

I posted what I see in my VLC.

Which version are you using?

Is that for Mac or PC?

Thank you.

Your screenshot is the standard rather than the Advanced menu. There should be an additional menu option right down the bottom which isn't visible in your picture. But maybe you just didn't include it, or perhaps you downloaded vlc from the Windows Store rather than the official vlc site at https://www.videolan.org/

The Windows Store version doesn't include the many of features in the official version.

To get to the Advanced menu you need to click the "All" radio button I've indicated with a red arrow in this screenie.

That's a really old version. You need to update to 3.0.16 download from here: https://www.videolan.org/

Hi Hitchhiker,

Thank you so much for your help.

How can I detect if I’m watching the video in 1080p as I view it?
