saved playlist includes itself

My saved playlists include themselves. For example: I have a playlist like:

Playlist/
...stuff

I save it as TO WATCH.xspf (wouldn't it be nice if there were a button to save it to its last location). The next time I click on "TO WATCH.xspf", VLC launches and I get this playlist:

Playlist/
TO WATCH.xspf/
...stuff

If I keep doing this, more instances of TO WATCH.xspf appear. Every time, I have to drag "...stuff" back into "Playlist" before I save, or else the infinite regress could fill the universe.

Is there a way around this?
