Locking VLC window position

This has been asked several times before, but I haven't been able to find an answer that works.

How can I lock the window position so that the next time I open VLC the window is in the same location on my screen?

I know how to set the size of the window, and that works, but the position controls (Prefs: xy cords) don't do anything.

Also, is there a way to make the playlist open when VLC starts?

I'm using 0.8.4a and XP.

I use it myself and it works well.

Also, is there a way to make the playlist open when VLC starts?

For me it works this way:
If VLC is already open, open the playlist, position it, go to Settings - Preferences, Save and Restart VLC.
This way VLC starts with the visible playlist at the same position i saved it.
