Is it a file with multiple video tracks in different duration?

In other words, you have a 53 minutes video and a 2,33 hours video(I think it's means 2 hours and 1188 seconds rather than Two hundred thirty three hours?) mixed in one mkv files.

And in this case, VLC will show the duration of the longer track, but if the track you play is the shorter one, the situation you described will happen.

I did some test, and it seems that the choice of default track also affect the behavior of VLC in this case. So the easiest way is to divide them into separate file.

Thanks for the reply . ys it is 2 hours and 33 minutes, and it is one video track no other tracks, and yes I am thinking to divide them into separate file, but still looking for a software to do that.
but it means that VLC will not be able to play this long file, is it correct?

Would you mind providing the output of MediaInfo? https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

You don't need a mxf file, MediaInfo can read mkv file.

Just install it, and right click your mkv file-MeidaInfo. You may change the View option into Text, and paste the output to here.

It looks no problem.

My advice is to try to remux this file using MKVToolNix.

Open MKVToolNix Gui, the add your mkv file to "Source files" in Multiplexer tool. Then just click "Start multiplexing". It will create a new mkv file, and check the new file if it can be played smoothly.

If it doesn't work, select the video track in "Tracks, chapters and tags", and select "Fix bitstream timing info" in "Properties" and try again.

Hope this will solve the problem.

I did try using the MKVToolNix 64, New MKV file is created with the same size, but when I play the file it is only play till 53 minutes, and when I play the original MKV file with the same size it show the duration as I mentioned earlier on 2 hours 33 minutes, and in this software (I could not find select the video track in "Tracks, chapters and tags", and select "Fix bitstream timing info" in "Properties" )

what I found very odd that it creates a new MKV with almost the same size but when I check the duration only till 53 minutes.

Thanks for all the help, it seem that the mkv file is damaged and I managed to redownload it, which it twice bigger, so my problem is solved.
