VLC stops short of converting entire file

Postby shamanknight » 15 Nov 2006 08:08

While trying to convert larger files (above 500 MB), VLC stops short of the full conversion. In this particular case I am trying to convert a full movie (900 MB) from AVI to WMV. VLC is stopping around the 4 minute mark every time. The small file that is produced plays fine, but I can't manage to get VLC to go beyond that time frame. The original movie file plays all the way through on every player that I have, including VLC.

Any suggestions?

Messages should give some indication as to the problem.

For example a bad spot where there is a break in the code or an erroneous EOF in the encode.

VLC does not give any type of error message. It stops as it does when it's finished converting a file. There is no bad spot in the original file, it plays perfect, as does the 4 minutes of the file that VLC converts.

What Windows operating system?

Your sure you are not running out of disk space?

I'm grasping here, as I use VLC all the time and have made 5gig MPEG 2 files, which you really shouldn't do. :)

Out of curiosity, is the lipsync on your 4 min transcode?

Window XP Media Center,

I have more than 300 GB free,

And yep, the lipsync is dead on.

Try http://downloads.videolan.org/pub/video ... 8.6-test1/

Being real honest, I have been using VLC for quite some time and have not experienced your particular problem.

I know this sounds silly, but in your Prefences, Input/Codecs main page, Advanced options on, there's a "Stop time" field. You didn't save some value in there did you?

Try erasing the preferences directory. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner (this is you)\Application Data\VLC Erase VLC.

Application Data is a hidden directory so you will need to make it visible.

I have this problem trying to convert a 23 minute mp4 video of 159MB and it stops at 7'18". The resulting incomplete file (121MB) plays fine. Storage shouldn't be an issue.
macOS 10.15.5, VLC 3.0.10 Vetinari.
