Converting 4k Video to 2560x1440 results in a corrupt converted video

Hi all! I'm trying to convert a 4k video from my action cam to 2k, or 2560x1440, so that I can edit the video in Vegas Pro 15 without maxing my CPU usage. I went into VLC, selected convert/save from the Media menu, imported my video, pressed Convert/Save, chose the H.264 + MP3 (MP4) profile from the drop down, pressed the Edit Selected Profile button, clicked on the Video codec tab and then the resolution, and manually set it to a width of 2560 and a height of 1440. I also changed the audio to "Keep original track". VLC converts the video like normal, but when I try to open the new converted video using the Windows Movies and TV app, it just says the file has been corrupted. I tried a few other things, like only inputting the width and letting VLC calculate the rest, but no dice.

What really confuses me is that when I changed the values from 2560x1440 to 2048x1080 (which is another 2k resolution, apparently), it works perfectly fine, even though the aspect ratio is completely different than the original 3840x2160 video. It even creates letterboxes and everything! Why does manually inputting the width and height of a resolution with a proper aspect ratio create a corrupted video, but inputting the width and height of a completely different ratio work?!

I used Handbrake and it worked, thanks for the help
