Virus Total: Virus in VLC? (Jiangmin antivirus engine)

Postby Klacksen » 24 May 2020 22:26

Hi there,
I just downloaded the VLC from the official webiste ( https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.de.html)

When I downloaded the file (https://get.videolan.org/vlc/3.0.10/win64/vlc-3.0.10-win64.exe), I checked the exe. file with virustotal. One engine said, that there is a trojan (Jiangmin: Trojan.Generic. esazv)

Is it a real virus or just a false positive?!

Here is the URL Link of Virus Total:
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/e0a0883cd6c29aee23ecfc63573bc09e09f78de0da78a6f55ab13fab1c65850b/detection

Please help, thank you!

There is a Chinese antivirus that keeps falsely flagging. I think Jiangmin was the one in my case. Better to ignore it.

If that is with VLC 3.0.10 stable release then 3.0.11 is out anyway?

I haven't found MD5 signature etc. for it though. Should be about somewhere.

I am not sure about Virus Total but it says that if any of its scanners says "infected" then they offer the file as suspicious to each of the scanners that didn't say that. So if it really was, then later on should they not all detect it?

Try the online Viruscheck for your "VLC.exe".

Drag and drop the "VLC.exe" from your Computer in the online-Zone in Virustotal ("Finger print-Symbol").
Virustotal check the .exe-File with many Antivirus-Tools.

If one or two Antivirus-Tools detect a Virus in the "VLC.exe"-File, there is something wrong with the Tools.

If all or the most Antivirus-Tools detect a Virus, then delete the File and install the VLC-Player new.

Before check your Computer for Virus.
