installing two versions of VLC at same time?

Postby jbclem » 23 Jul 2019 11:09

I'm using v2.2.4 and it works fine except the Playlist/podcast workings has a lot of bugs. I'd like to try the latest version to see if there's any improvement, but I don't want the v2.2.4 to be over-written.

Is there a way to have two different versions of VLC installed at the same time?

VLC 3 is portable if you create "portable" folder in VLC folder. You can download 7zip or Zip package instead of installer (videolan.org > click Windows icon under the blue [Download VLC|v] bar > click down-arrow |v] in the orange download bar).

Does VLC 3 have to be in a folder named "portable" in order to be portable? Can it be named and placed something/somewhere else?

Does the "portable" folder have to be a primary folder, or can it be a sub-folder?

In main VLC folder containing "vlc.exe" file create a subfolder named "portable".

Thanks for the help, I got the portable version running. Unfortunately, the playlist won't open any of the 20 podcasts I have listed and running in VLC 2.2.4 weatherfax. And the error message keeps referring to a log file without disclosing it's location.

"Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/worldservice/discovery/rss.xml'. Check the log for details."

It seemed to have picked up the podcast playlist from my other VLC (2.2.4). When none of the podcasts would work, I tried adding a new one but that didn't work either. I found a LOGS sub-directory in the VLC 2.2.4 folder, but the only file in it was an empty one named
"test".

Any thoughts on troubleshooting this?
