Fingerprinting

Postby dugdugdug » 14 Feb 2015 21:16

In my Windows version of VLC, I noticed there is a Fingerprint option located under Tools -> Code Information -> General.

Can someone please tell me what it does?

I clicked on it whilst playing a file. An Audio Fingerprint message box popped up, then after a while, it stated no fingerprints were found.

What was it doing and does it change / delete anything?

Thanks

It's trying to find, on an online database, the information about this song.

It's trying to find, on an online database, the information about this song.
So it doesn't alter the file (it's an mkv film file) in any way, if it doesn't manage to find any fingerprints?

Yes, it does not modify the file.

WHICH "online database"? Do they respect my privacy or they get all in my business?

So I was searching for where the fingerprint information was stored since I have an album my brother released two days ago.
And I would like to add that album with info the the database.

Where could I do this?
