https m3u8 stream bouncing yellow bar only

Postby efeo » 15 Mar 2019 08:18

I get a bouncing yellow bar when trying to play any https m3u8 streams in vlc on one of my pc's. The stream never loads and eventually stops. They work fine on other pc's in my local network. Been trying for weeks with no luck as i am trying to record my nest doorbell.
Below is the log from a test stream from Bitmovin that is also not working. it up to the point where it hangs for about 10 minutes. After this there are eventually more messages but they are about 4 times over the limit of the amount of text i am allowed to post here.

https://bitdash-a.akamaihd.net/content/ ... ylist.m3u8

This H.264 video has a resolution of 4096*1744 and an average bitrate between 10000 and 15000 kb/s.
Are you sure your computer can handle both ?

pretty sure. Its an AMD Ryzen 7 1800X. It has no graphics card as I only remote desktop to it. I have tried it with a standard graphics card and by logging directly onto the PC to test but still got has the same issue. Yes this test stream does have a high resolution but my nest doorbell is relatively low and I still get the same issue. I can play UHD and HDR videos on the PC with no problems

Behind the URL https://bitdash-a.akamaihd.net/content/ ... ylist.m3u8 are different Video-Resolutions available, depend from the Client-Bitrate for playing the Video.
My VLC-Player 3.0.6 (32-Bit) under Windows 7 start the Video with the highest Bitrate of 10.0 MBit/s.

Available Video-Bitrates (..., 1.5 MBit/s, 4 MBit/s, 6 MBit/s and 10 MBit/s)
https://bitdash-a.akamaihd.net/content/ ... 0kbit.m3u8 (1.5 MBit/s)
https://bitdash-a.akamaihd.net/content/ ... 0kbit.m3u8 (4.0 MBit/s)
https://bitdash-a.akamaihd.net/content/ ... 0kbit.m3u8 (6.0 MBit/s)
My PC get a green Screen with the highest HLS-Bitrade and the ATI Radeon 4300/4500 Series Graphic-Card.
https://bitdash-a.akamaihd.net/content/ ... 0kbit.m3u8 (10.0 MBit/s)

The Stream has also an audio HLS-File and a subtitle HLS-File (HLS = Http Live Stream).

The original Streams are located for Example in the following URL.
https://bitmovin.com/mpeg-dash-hls-exam ... e-streams/

Try to play a combined Stream for Video (Example: 1.5 MBit/s or 4.0 MBit/s) and with an Audio-Streams.
Look in the VLC-Player GUI for "Show more Options" and "Play an other Stream syncronously (extra audio file, ...)".
https://bitdash-a.akamaihd.net/content/ ... 8kbit.m3u8 (Stereo)
or
https://bitdash-a.akamaihd.net/content/ ... 0kbit.m3u8 (surround)

Thanks for the info . I tried playing the lowest quality stream (1.5Mbit/s) and after about 15 minutes a picture did eventually pop up. At a very very rough guess It looks like its running at 1 frame every 2 minutes. The 10mbit stream ran perfectly fine on my lower specked laptop.
I don't know what my nest stream is but its way lower than this and that doesn't even work

This is the most recent part of the log. The whole log is to long to paste here...

Please make a Speedtest with your AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Computer and your other Computer with lower Performance.

For Example: https://www.speedtest.net/

Are there Differences?
Did You install the latest Network-Driver?

Ryzen PC = 49.07Mbps
lower performance PC(intel i5) = 49.12Mbps

So doesn't look like a network speed issue

Its a gigabit Motherboard and according to the Motherboard app the latest motherboard drivers are installed

While I get the yellow bouncing bar I check the router for live network activity and there is pretty much no traffic apart from the usual low background of about 1-2KB/s

just tried playing m3u8 streams using a different player (5KPlayer) and I get similar issues. So its not a vlc player problem. but the stream will work if a play in Chrome using castr stream testing website. very strange.

I have previously tried the Castr site and my nest doorbell plays on there

It look's like after a "secure http" (https://...) Trouble with the Ryzen Computer.
https://itstillworks.com/computer-block ... -4787.html

You also wrote something about Remote Desktop.

Hope the Hints will help to find a Solution.
At the Moment I do not have a Idea.
