Slow playback with H.265 video

Postby jdc5294 » 04 Feb 2019 07:22

Hi all, I'm experiencing freezing/laggy playback with 2160p H.265 video. My computer isn't top of the line, but when I look at the stats for what it's doing no components are working at anywhere near to 100% in the task manager. Perfectly willing to be told this doesn't mean anything and in reality I have a piece of butt computer. Sometimes the video will freeze, more often it will freeze and get grey artifacts like this:

Image

Specs
i7-4710MQ (with onboard Intel HD 4600 gpu)
16gb memory
Nvidia 840M gpu

What I've tried:
Updated graphics drivers
Updated VLC to 3.0.6
Caching value> 1000ms
Skip the loop filter for H.264>all (don't know if that really mattered but did it anyway)
Hardware-accelerated decoding>tried all of them
Video Output modules>tried all of them
FFmpeg threads>2
Created a copy of the vlc.exe and had it run with the Nvidia gpu instead of the intel.

Here's my log. Thanks in advance!
