VLC & GPU Video profiles Work - HOW ??

Postby craige » 12 Dec 2018 21:59

I am using VLC for years now and have always used my AMD GPU softwares Video settings to enhance my viewing experience in VLC.

Today I formatted my PC and installed a fresh copy of VLC from website and It no longer works. Any changes I make to the GPU Softwares Video settings are not getting reflected at all...

Please folks help me troubleshoot this.

What do you mean by "It no longer works"? Do you mean it doesn't launch at all, or that it won't play videos?

Also, which version of Windows 10 are you using? If you're not sure, hit Windows key + R to open the Run command, type: winver and hit Enter.

I meant - VLC launch and play normally... I can no longer use AMD Softwares Video profiles on VLC to change how the video looks.
I am on Latest updated version of both VLC and Windows 10 (Build 17763.194)

Could you post your system specs please together with the driver version for your GPU.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the reason you reinstalled Windows?

Sry mate.. Running Win 10 Pro (DX12) with GPU Version AMD Adrenalin 18.12.1 and system specs is 16GB Ram with 4790K processor.
I also downloaded old VLC version 3.0.1 but it deosnt seem to be working on it BUT everything seems working perfectly fine on version 2.2.4 !!

On latest versions I noticed Video profiles are working absolutely fine on youtube but just not on VLC.

The video profiles i am referring all this time is below as screenshot:

AMD Adrenalin 18.12.1 is the Edition version, but which drivers are you using with it?

Is it 18.40.11.09 or 25.20.14011.9004? The latter is the Windows Store version. Windows drivers don't usually contain the same enhancements as the original drivers from AMD.

It is 18.40.11.09.

Version 3.0.5 was released a couple of days ago, maybe try that. I'd recommend you use the option to delete cache and prefs during the uninstall process and then install the latest version. https://www.videolan.org/

VLC 3.0 uses Direct3D 11 by default, so presumably AMD settings are not compatible with that.

The problem may lie with the AMD application rather than with vlc. According to the AMD support site, "Demo Mode" should be set to On. It's off in your screenshot. Available video profiles with Radeon settings

I understand this is too late. But I found a way to get AMD Video Profiles to work here:

1. Open VLC Player.
2. Goto Tools>Preferences.
3. Switch view to 'Simple' from 'All' in the 'Show settings' box on the lower left corner.
4. Goto the 'Video' tab in the Preferences window.
5. Change the 'Output' setting to 'Direct3D9 video output'.
6. Save.

This steps worked for me.
Now if I close the player and open any video with VLC, AMD Video Profiles will work. However, Demo Mode seems to not work in my case.

My specs:
Windows 10 Pro Build 19043.928
VLC Player 3.0.16 Vetinari
AMD RX 580 GPU (8GB Model)

Radeon Software details:
Software Version: 2021.0824.1855.34051
Driver Version: 21.20.25.01-210824a-370882C-RadeonSoftware
Yours faithfully,
Debasish Bordoloi
