Playback problem 3.0.3 - Windows 7 - 64

Postby Ross6432 » 04 Jun 2018 15:38

Tried upgrading to 3.0.3 today. But hit this issue and dropped back to 2.2.8....

Hardware: Windows 7 + i7 (6Gb Ram) + Quadro FX370 Graphics - yeah I know, not exactly a hot machine.

Media: MOV clip taken from an iPad (1920x1080 H264 @ 29.97 - 44.1 KHz audio)

Symptoms: Playback in 3.0.3 only showed a few frames. Often only a single frame. The seek bar proceeded as normal, but no video.
Audio plays correctly. It looks rather like CPU starvation, but CPU load is minimal (a few percent max).

In 2.2.8 both video and audio play fine. CPU load is higher (say 8-10%).

I'm wondering if there are some new hardware requirements (esp' GPU) for 3.0?

Ross.

Can you provide verbose logs for the 3.0 so we can know what's going on ? Thanks

I have a similar problem with the 64 bit VLC 3.0.3 version with both Windows 10 and 7 on different PCs.

When I try to play the sample AVI file, only a few frames are displayed but the progress bar proceed normally.
However, if I copy the file on my NAS and I open it (using Samba to access the file) the video frames are displayed correctly.

My configuration used to produce the logs: i5 6600k, Geforce 960, Samsung 850 pro ssd.

Log of video not playing correctly when from local disk:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qajv1asg8swgb ... l.txt?dl=0

Log of the video playing correctly from Samba sharing:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/mcrwbbqhqae6p ... a.txt?dl=0

Sample video:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/cmkwzyacf4a3h ... e.avi?dl=0

I tried the nightly builds as well and both 3.0.4 and 4.0.0 shows the same problem, with 4.0.0 that displays a bit more frames compared to the 3.0.x versions.
With 2.2.8 everything works correctly.

Try disabling hardware acceleration. I hope it helps. https://www.ghacks.net/2013/03/05/how-t ... ng-in-vlc/

I already tried to disable hardware acceleration, but didn't help.

Anyway I don't think is a codec problem, because if I open the file from a Samba network sharing it works correctly.

Moreover I tryed to share my local directory and tryed to access it with the Samba path and it works correctly as well. :?
I.e.:
File path: C:\...\Desktop\test\sample.avi shared with Samba as \\MyPC\test\sample.avi.

If I open C:\...\Desktop\test\sample.avi it doesn't display correctly,
while if I open \\MyPC\test\sample.avi it displays correctly.

Hi, I got similar problems and they were solved by activating and deactivating the "fast seek" option in tool > preference > input/codecs couple of times. So now I use the fast seek as it turned on and I have no artifacts in any format or whatever. It really worth a try.

I had this problem when I enabled OpenGL Video Output in the video preference settings. When I removed this or set it to OpenGL Video Output for Windows, the progress bar returned.

Hope this helps
