VLC 3.0.3 does not read Blu-ray Menu although Java is installed

Postby pielle » 15 Aug 2018 12:46

I installed Java 8 as requested by VLC, but when I open a Blu-ray Disc, with menu, VLC 3 tells me that it does not find Java (?!?) And so I can not open the menu.
Then the film starts regularly (thank goodness that VLC allows me to choose the audio language!).
O.S. Win 10 64 bit

Hello,

have you installed the 64bit version of java ? This is not suggested by default on Oracle website.
I think the url is: https://www.java.com/en/download/windows-64bit.jsp

Yes Java is the 64bit version (indicated on Windows 10 settings) and no other versions are installed.
Also I inform you that VLC behaves differently depending on the type of Blu-ray:
- If the disc is of my production VLC starts from the Menu playing only the Audio, and does not allow me to do anything else (so I can not go to the movie)
- If it's a commercial disk VLC tells me that it can not display the Menu because it does not find Java on the PC and then it makes me start the movie
I hope in further help

I am having this exact problem.

I JUST installed, and verified Java.

When I open a blu ray disc I get 'menus are not available, java not installed' and the movie starts to play with the vision impared narration.

Any hints/advice will be appreciated.

This is again such an annoying problem. Thank you damn Videolan for not being clear about this or providing any information. F nerds.
Sometimes it helpes to set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to the path where java is installed.
Don't forget to update it after every Java update .... :(

But I have a case here where it doesn't work even with the env variable set.
May it has to do with the 32 64 chaos. I tried both Vlc versions, both didn't work.
Latest Java installed x86_64.
