3.0.3 full screen colour change mouse movement

Postby Scooteresque » 02 Jun 2018 21:44

Hi VLC, Love your software!!! Just upgraded to 3.0.3 (W10/64), I downloaded a video (1080P) from YouTube: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNCck_-LczU&t=1s) and went into full screen. The floating bar at the bottom of the screen (sorry do not know what it is called) disappears as usual but the video flickered a red tone and went beck to normal. I moved the mouse again and the colors flickered again as described and then when the bar disappears it flickers again in the same way.

Same issue. Every video file I fullscreen does this. It almost seems like it's inverting colors for a split second as the UI becomes active/inactive.

Can you try to use D3D9 in video preferences?

I switched to 'Direct3D9 video output' and the issue went away.

I have the same issue and solved it with the same suggestion. Why is it worrying, what's wrong?

I can also say that it happens everytime a UI pops out, such as volume control UI when volume is turned up or down, windows notifications, bottom floating bar when mouse is moved.

It seems it's inverting colors but I think it actually does a blue flashing.

Because on Windows 10, you should get a working D3D11.

Hi, I have the same issue with the VLC since the update to 3.0.3 that when there is any movement of the mouse or if the video is forwarded or re-winded it will show a blue color cast on the video for a moment. Switching to D3D9 solved that issue. Did not have the latest drivers before, but when the issue started updated it to the latest ones to no avail until the change to D3D9. OS is windows 10 pro graphics is AMD

I just wanted to say that I have this exact same issue in 3.0.4. More specifically, it appears that VLC is going into exclusive full screen mode when double clicking the video and setting the video output to SDR. When I move the mouse, VLC has to make the UI elements appear, and that somehow makes the video mode go to HDR (Windows setting). As soon as the UI elements disappear, the screen switches to SDR again. Each switch between SDR and HDR results in a black screen, kind of like an HDMI input switch on a TV. My monitor notifies me every time the video switches from SDR to HDR, so that's how I know it's happening.

VLC 3.0.4
Windows 10 1803 (can't update to 1809 for god-knows-what reason)
Nvidia 2080ti running the latest drivers 417.01

Switching the Video Output Module to D3D9 works around this issue.

Hi @salamihawk, do you have logs ?
To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:

Your issue is not the same as the one from OP.

Also, do you have HDR enabled on the Windows settings? Because I doubt we touch anything about this HDR/SDR transition, but Windows is.

Had the same issues as OP i think...
The screen turns black when i move the mouse in full screen. Changing video output to 3D9 solves the issue.

What ultimately solved it was changing the HDR/UHD settings on my samsung TV to off. (Genereal->external devices->HDMI UHD Color)

Windows UHD was set to off the entire time.

Hello,

I'm having this (or a similar) problem: when in fullscreen, with the VLC control bar at the bottom, the colors are correct. When that bar disappears, the whole screen takes on a reddish or orange tinge. If I move the mouse and bring the controls back, the colors return to normal.

I DO have Windows HDR turned on. This is in Windows 10 1809 with a Radeon RX580 and a Monoprice 28" 4k monitor that supports FreeSync and HDR. I have the Radeon 19.1.2 drivers installed, but am updating to 19.2.1 this very moment.
