Stop button is doing the same thing as the X (exit) button
windows 10 VLC vers 3.0.3 With previous versions of VLC, On the customizable interface, the stop button (⏹)used to stop the media leaving just the player on screen, but now it is exiting the player all together as how the () button does.
) button does.-

It quits the program completely? not vlc.exe running?
