Video wont play

Postby bludger » 01 Jun 2018 16:42

I've just installed the latest version of VLC and videos won't play; the screen is just black although the audio is fine. Can anyone please help me with this? I'm running windows 10

Thanks.

Same here. Audio fine, no video. Weirdly, this only happens with every other video. When I start it up, everything's fine. Next video, black screen.

You can always disable hw acceleration in prefrence to find the culprit
To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:
  1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
  2. Set Verbosity to 2
  3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
  4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
  5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [code]and[/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)
Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.
:!: If you want your problem to be solved :
* First read troubleshooting guide VSG:Main
* Always provide verbose LOGS ! (command line or from gui)
* Always check your issue against a developer build from Nightly Build of VLC
* Tell us when your problem is solved !

I was able to get my videos, mainly MP4s to display by going to TOOLS/PREFERENCES/VIDEO and changing the Output heading to Direct3D9. I am unable however to get the Adjustments and Effects/Video Effects/Essential to work

Today, I received notice that a new version of VLC was available. I downloaded the player. Attempted to play several video files. There was audio but zippo video. I took Mr. Anderson's suggestion and changed the output heading to Direct3D9. The picture appears along with sound when running the file; however, as he previously noted, the Effects/Video Effects feature does not work--not good. I want to sharpen the video, add or detract color, add or detract contrast, etc. The VLC 3.0.3 version has a problem until the Effects/Video Effects feature is restored.

I've decided to delete the VLC 3.0.3 version and go back to the order 3.2 version--at least I can use the Effects/Video Effects features. If I want to watch a 60 FPS (Frames Per Second) video, I'll use another media player. The 3.2 version will playback a 60 FPS video in a choppy, jerky manner. The VLC 3.0.3 player appears to play a 60 FPS video without the hesitation; however, the video is slightly distorted.

I'm hoping that the Effects/Video Effects feature is restored within the 3.0.3 version fairly quickly. Until then, I'm sticking with the older VLC player.

Thanks.
