2 copies of vlc player installed - which to delete?

Postby Anonymoose » 18 Nov 2017 19:38

Hi,

It looks like I somehow have two copies of VLC player installed on a windows 10, 64bit computer. Both are the same version (e.g., current). One is in my "program files" folder, the other in the "program files (x86)" folder.

Are both of these needed for some reason, or can I delete one? All the folder contents in the main Videolan folders pretty much look the same, although I didn't go looking in the subfolders.

If I can delete one, which is the better one to delete - e.g., the one in "program files" or the one in "program files (x86)"?

Thanks in advance for help on this!

Keep the x64 one as it's supposoed to be slightly faster than the x86 one.

Thanks to both of you for your responses. Unfortunately neither really clear things up. Sooo.... does it make any real difference which I delete? Are there any clear differences between the 32 bit version and the 64 bit version? Does the 32 bit version have any features the 64 bit one doesn't? I gather that in general, 32 bit programs can only access 3G memory, so from that standpoint alone I suppose I ought to delete it and keep the 64 bit one - but are there any functional advantages to the 32 bit version of VLC player? Some programs I know still have more features in the 32 bit version, or more bugs in the 64 bit version - anything that way with VLC player?

If you regularly capture snapshots from your videos, I would keep the 32 Bit version as the 64 Bit version doesn't name the snapshots correctly.

Uninstall 64 bit and keep 32 bit.
