freezes my (multi mon) system requiring a reset (win2k)

I'm running windows 2000 pro, and I have a multi monitor system. I don't know if the multi monitor is a factor, but thought I should mention it.

I've experienced numerous cases where it freezes. For example, if I pause, and move the window to a different monitor it freezes when I hit play, sometimes. I've had it freeze just by trying different interlace settings.

I've got lots of software installed, including various other players. But these, like powerdvd,windows media player, etc. don't cause this problem. Some won't play on the second monitor (powerdvd will only play on the main monitor for ex.).

Does VLC come with all it's own codecs and/or other drivers or whatnot or could there be a conflict with what I have on my system?

Also, when I switch to extended gui mode, it messes up the window until I restart a new movie.
