Movie out of sync in VLC but OK in Vdub

Postby Rincewind » 13 Oct 2017 16:51

Hi

I have a number of avi movie files that play just fine in Vdub but when I play them in Vlan the sound is out of sync. Mostly an offset (- typically c.0.5 seconds) issue but the occasional movie is slightly out in frame rate as well. There were encoded in Vdub using x264vfw (latest version)

Never known it happen before so it might be to do with x264 encoding (I used to use xvid)?

Any idea how this could happen and what I can do to fix it?

Is it playing fine with other players ?
If not, then blame VirtualDub.

And TBH you shouldn't use VirtualDub for encoding H.264 as there are problems with B-frames.
Why don't you use x264 CLI ?
And/or any GUI which is using it. Avidemux is just one of them.

Thx - Yes had come to that conclusion also.
Trouble is Vdub has so many great editing/adjusting features.
Sounds like I may have to learn a new skill set :-(
