BSOD when using VLC (Win 10)

Postby KrishnaSadhana » 22 Sep 2017 15:56

Hey guys, I would like to ask for some solution regarding a problem that I'm facing right now.

I've been using VLC Player for a number of years now, but earlier this month my laptop went BSOD whenever I'm watching an HQ .mkv file while doing some torrenting. Unfortunately my dump files were deleted by my CCleaner program, however I still remember the error that I had when my computer crashed.

The first error was on September 8th, 2017 at 10:55:16am. I was watching an episode of How I Met Your Mother while torrenting Top Gear straight into my external HD. My laptop went BSOD near the end of the episode, with the error code PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA.

The log from my Event Viewer showed this:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000c2 (0x0000000000000007, 0x00000000206c644d, 0x0000000000c00000, 0xffffb003cfe57010). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 04648eea-dddd-4e4a-8a75-5a72c84e7390.

After my laptop went BSOD, I did a disk and memory check and found no errors.

The second error occurred on the same day, at 11:21:55am. My torrent client was open and I was watching an episode of The Grand Tour when the BSOD happened, this time with the error code BAD POOL CALLER.

My Event Viewer log showed this:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000050 (0xffffb2900cd74498, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff80b02c65af7, 0x0000000000000002). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 7661853b-b28e-4422-bf6f-22344102f22c.

Unfortunately my Memory.DMP file was nowhere to be found in my C:\WINDOWS folder because my CCleaner program had probably cleaned it when I was clearing my C drive for any corrupted files from the consecutive crashes, so I apologize beforehand if I couldn't provide any DMP file. However, I'm slightly worried if my VLC Player was the cause behind these crashes, and since I love to watch movies with them, I'm unable to watch my HD .mkv files until this problem is sorted out. I was wondering could you guys help me with this?

Bug check codes are at the url below.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/librar ... s.85).aspx
I didn't see anything there that points to VLC as the culprit.
Make sure your CCleaner is the current one, since a prior version contained a trojan horse.
