subtitles - again..

Postby QQ » 11 Dec 2005 21:03

Hello,

i guess these kind of threads will just keep and keep and keep on coming till someone explains how does it work correctly.

I got avi file with idx and sub files of subtitles. When I open it via Open File, and manually select the idx file, subtitles are shown. But they should be autodetected, since I enabled it in options (i think so, I can't for one really navigate the system, I have no idea where to look for subtitle options..)

So when I enable debug level of logging, I see no messages whatsoever about the subtitles. When i check config file i see:

# Autodetect subtitle files (boolean)
#sub-autodetect-file=1

so it's commented out right, disabled. so I change it to

# Autodetect subtitle files (boolean)
sub-autodetect-file=1

nope, doesnt work. and if i click "save" in preferences it comments that line out again.

so how on earth do I get autoloading to work?!

:(

Hello,

The fact that the line gets commented is normal. "1" is the default value so if you try to set it, it will comment it out, because it's "useless".

What is the name of the movie and the name of the subtitle file ? Did you put the "fuzzyness" option (in the same panel than autodetect) at maximum level ?

its:

nedivx-stealth-cd2.avi
nedivx-stealth-cd2.idx
nedivx-stealth-cd2.sub

i tried it both at level 3 and level 1 - same result (nothing! no mention of subtitles in messages window whatsoever..)

for future reference: you need to pass file including full path for subtitle autoloading to work

vaz

Postby vaz » 12 Dec 2005 15:27

Does this mean that if you do not specify path, autoload does not work?
If yes... then what is the sense of autoload.

Just to point out, i have the same problem.

It means that if the movie file is not loaded into VLC with it's full path
ergo:

adding playlist item `nedivx-stealth-cd2.avi' ( nedivx-stealth-cd2.avi )
instead of
adding playlist item `C:\movies\nedivx-stealth-cd2.avi' ( nedivx-stealth-cd2.avi )

VLC does not understand where to look for the subtitle files. It's on the bug list already.

I cannot understand

VLC 0.8.4a for Windows doesn't show 'subtitle tracks' option in Video menu on my PIII800 pc, but another installation on a P4 2.0G pc does show.
I am totally confused by the wierd situation. Is it a bug? If so, it hasn't been fixed since 0.8.4 in the least.

btw,mac os x port of VLC works well, why?

Have you tried to delete the config file?

VLC 0.8.4a has really messed up the subtitles/Caption for me as well....
