Set default video size

Postby SverreMunthe » 12 Jun 2016 15:49

I'm trying to set the default size of all and every video played in VLC. I'm not interested in setting them for a specific playlist or what not, but for all videos opened. Having the VLC opened in windowed mode which shows part of the window far outside the screen is annoying to say the least. So, if I can resize all videos I open to, say 1280x720, would be great, that way I can see the complete window on the screen and not having to do all the hassel of moving and resizing the window every time I open a video.

If it isn't possible, would it be an idea to implement it?

From Tools - Preferences
From Interface tab, untick "Resize interface to video size".
Then resize VLC.

It seems to me that, that choice will resize, not to the last size of the window, which I want, but to the video. I've tried to tick it and untick it AFTER I resized the window and then save it.

I have the same question. I followed the instructions but I still have videos starting out spilling over the whole screen. These are videos produced by my drone's camera and are in mp4. I would like these videos to be small enough that I get the controls and the blue completed line on screen without having to explicitly resize each time I open another mp4.
unticking resize interface to video size, and saving doesn't do it. Any offers? (Thanks, guys!)

Easy.

1. Open any video and resize the VLC view screen to whatever size you want. Drag the corners and then go up to the Menu-bar at the top...
Tools>Preferences>Interface>UNCHECK "Resize interface to video size" and save that puppy.

Close your video and reopen to verify the correct setup. Its a two-step process, badly designed. Drag and size your viewing screen, then UNCHECK the "Resize Interface to video size" and SAVE.

Peace to all of you. Lots of people care.

What you describe does not work withVLC 2.2.4, which opens with its own preferred size, just short of the whole screen minus the height of a one-line taskbar, after I do exactly as you suggested. Repeatedly.

It's a longstanding VLC problem. Why hasn't it been fixed?

I'm using VLC 3.0.4 and this is still a problem. There is no "Resize interface" option in the interface settings anymore.

I'd really like to see this feature as well - I usually watch videos to one side while working on other things, so I like to keep the window to fit that space. Resizing it manually every time I open vlc is a nuisance.

Thanks to the invisible army that keeps improving this program!

How could you possibly miss it? It's as plain as the nose on your face!

As in my other post dealing with the same problem, this only works if "Use native style" is also checked.
IT DOES NOT WORK when using a custom skin.

The "Resize interface" option does not appear when using a custom skin.

Zoom Player clearly has this feature with these words: "Remember window size"

IS THIS TOO DIFFICULT FOR THE VLC DEVELOPERS TO IMPLEMENT?

Hi All,

Go to tools -> preferences -> video and change the Display device to display instead of Default. Try this and post your comments. Sorry if doesn't work for you.

Thanks,
Your Friend

Thank you for the tip - I tried that, but it didn't have any effect.

fyi - I'm using VLC 3.0.8 in OSX Catalina now, still autoresizes the window on stop. Resize interface is still not in preferences on my machine.

Any word on a fix for autoresize on Catalina? Super annoying to have it always resize down to default resolution (very small) on a large UHD monitor when I drag a new video into the VLC windows.

I got this to work on Catalina.

Version 3.0.8 Vetinari (Intel 64bit)

Preferences

Select 'Show All'

Go to Interface/Main Interfaces/macosx options. And the 'do not resize interface' option is listed

You may need to enable OS X specific interface options.
