Dolby Digital no LFE and front/rear mixed

Postby dabp » 23 Mar 2017 23:49

I am using version 2.2.4 and experiencing a test file(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZ4FKFbyCS4) I have used before on a different sound setup(same PC) is not working like it used to.
Now when playing it in VLC, there is no LFE channel audio and LF/RF is mixed with the rear speakers.

Same file in Windows Media Player and KODI plays like before with correct audio in individual channels. I have tried to change everything that I could think of in the audio settings and I have also reinstalled(with settings removed as well), but it still doesn't play the audio correct.

Testing with other files I have download is the same, however some of them also doesn't play correctly in WMP and KODI. For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-Ap373bP5o

I also tried some of the "official" test files from Dolby: https://thedigitaltheater.com/index.php/dolby-trailers/ and the first "Amaze" seems to be playing the LFE channel just fine.

As mentioned, the original file I tested with, used to work fine in VLC on a different sound setup(denon avr-1910) but now with a Samsung HW-K560 + SWA-8000S soundbar + rear kit it is not working...

To expand a little:

I have tried to set directx sound to quad, 5.1 and 7.1 which lowers the overall volume of all sound output a lot and mixes all of the channels sort of, LFE audio is played by center speaker, not subwoofer...
Dolby Surround to "On", no effect
Enable "headphone surround effect", did the same as setting directx sound to 5.1 setup.
Change force detection of dolby surround, no effect
Stereo audio output mode: dolby surround, no effect
disabling "use float32" in directx and waveout, no effect
changing audio output channels from 9 to 6 in waveout, no effect
untick normalize channels under remap, no effect

Videos on Youtube are always 2 channels. And in this case it looks like the downmix has been badly made.

Anyway, you can not use Youtube videos for checking a 5.1 or 7.1 audio system.
Use these instead:

I am not using the videos from YouTube to test, it was just to show what I was using if people knew them. I am using their original unadulterated counterparts, and as mentioned, working in windows media player.
