selecting audio output device from command line

Postby Chalk-X CPG » 13 Feb 2017 23:01

I've scoured the internet for hours, and tried dozens of different combinations of command line options. But no matter what I do, the sound always plays through the default sound device. I have second sound device connected via USB port. I can successfully direct VLC to that device through the Windows GUI, (tools -> preferences -> audio -> output module...etc.). But my efforts to implement the same via command line are all ignored. Is this feature broken...or am I doing something wrong?

Reset all audio settings to their default values and close the VLC.
Then make a copy of the vlcrc file.
Now open the VLC and output the sound via your second audio device.
Close the VLC.
Obtain the free WinMerge tool and compare the copy of the vlcrc file with the vlcrc file last used by VLC.
You can now see which parameters you must use for the sound output via command line.

Thanks, kodela. I'm searching for the vlcrc file. Can you tell me more about the file? Where is it located? What is the full filename with extension?

Found it! Using the directx-audio-device information from the vlcrc file worked. Thanks a million.
