M3U8 video.

Postby Cranfield » 29 Dec 2016 15:47

I cannot play M3U8 videos with VLC , the player just goes into "not responding" mode.
Is there a fix for this, or some adjustment I can make ?

I would add that Windows Media Player will play them, but after they have, VLC will not open to play any other videos.
It is set as my default video player, but will ot open on anything.
I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but if I let Windows Media Player play a M3U8 video, VLC stops working.

Is this an "official" VideoLan site, or peer to peer advice ?
Do I need to report my problem to some VideoLan Support link ?
I have used the "Search" facility and found no answer to this issue, which I can't imagine is unique to me, unless I have browser setting issues, or something very similar.
Not being very techie minded (and old), I do rely on advice.

There is no VideoLAN support link: the software is free and thus nobody gets paid to provide the would-be user support.

Try VLC 3.0.0 nightly build.

Thank you, I have used free software in the past that had a Support facility, admittedly they eventually offered an uprated subscription version (Like Malewarebytes, Mailwasher, etc.
I just hoped there was some Pro Support.

Also, thanks lotesdelere, I am a bit cagey of using Beta versions of things, as I am not really competent to deal with any unwanted side effects.

I am a bit surprised that nobody else has had this problem, but |I suppose the upside is that its probably the first time in my nlife I have ever been involved in something unique. :D

VideoLAN is a foundation, and there would be fiscal difficulties with selling software. You can contact commercial partners if you want paid support http://www.videolan.org/videolan/partners.html but it won't be cheap...

I have persevered and found a solution to my problem, for the benefit of anyone else this is what works.
Access https://www.hlsplayer.net/ paste in the M3U8 link and HLSPlayer will convert and play it
You can either watch it, or by using a Download Manager, save it to your PC and watch it later via VLC Player.
