VLC Broken in files that are recorded higher than 30fps

Postby shredifier » 24 Nov 2016 12:02

Hi there,
No matter what version of Vlc that I use, it absolutely refuses to play files that have been recorded at 50fps, or 60fps
It can handle 1920x1080p video files that my camera records at 24 or 30fps, but as soon as I record an mp4 file at 50 or 60fps Vlc can not handle it, it lags, stutters, and can not handle those files at all

I find this utterly unacceptable and am hoping that the VideoLAN devs, and community are aware of this problem and if there is a fix for this problem
For additional info that may help, I can play those EXACT SAME mp4 files with Media Player Classic, and Windows own default media player on the exact same computer that i'm trying to use Vlc with....but nope, it just seems to me that Vlc is not built to handle frame rates past 30fps
I have tried going into the settings and changed the rendering mode to directx hardware acceleration mode, instead of the default....Believe me I've changed and tinkered with all the settings but no can do

I know for a fact that this is Vlc's problem and NOT my computer because Media player Classic plays those exact same mp4 files running at 60fps with ease, no stutter, and smooth as a baby's behind

HELP!!!.....This is driving me insane!, how can a program as good as Vlc not cope with playing files as basic as content recorded at 50frames per second????

First, try to reset the preferences:
https://wiki.videolan.org/VSG:ResetPrefs

If it doesn't help then open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of a problematic file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to Zippyshare.com (200 MB max) and then post the link to the file here.

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=57724&p=193335#p193335
50 MB max should be enough.

Not the answer I was looking for lol
I've already reset the preferences and that doesn't work.....I don't believe it has anything to do with "settings" being misconfigured or what not, Vlc should be able to play 50fps and 60fps Video files straight out of the box, as it were, just like Media Player Classic can, this seems more like a specific software development oversight that is peculiar to Vlc itself
So i was wondering if the Vlc DEV team will be working on a fix?

I've asked you for a full log and a sample, please do it.

Not to mention you said absolutely nothing about your configuration.
What is your OS ?
What is your CPU ?
What is your graphics card ?
What is your VLC version ?

My OS is Windows 7
My CPU is a Intel core 2 Duo E8500 at 3.17 gigahertz
My graphics card is a Nvidia GTX 760
The Vlc version is 2.2.4 weatherwax

First off my rig is powerful enough to be able to handle 1920x1080p video files and play them back perfectly, hence my statement that Media Player Classic and the default Windows Media player can handle these files with ease
If those media players can play back content recorded in 60fps then SO SHOULD Vlc as it's the exact same system that i'm trying to get those files to work with Vlc
Secondly I've tried most versions of Vlc going back to 0.9.9 , so I know for a fact that it isn't a problem with just this 1 version of Vlc, as they ALL fail to play back these files
Hence my reluctance to upload a log....perhaps it's time to admit that VLC just isn't up to the task of playing back files that other media players play back with apparent ease
I find this a great shame as VLC can do things that NO other media player can do

Once again, we DO NEED the full log and a sample file as seen in this post:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 32#p450532

Please provide them.

I don't know if this will help you but it helped my recent problem that cropped up. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/ ... deo-files/

I never had to adjust or tweak VLC in forever and since i reset my computer now no matter which version of VLC i use it chokes at certain parts of certain m2ts AVCHD videos produced with Power Director. i have been trying for days to fix the problem. don't know if it's Power Director screwing up the videos or VLC. but then i find out that WMP and the new crappy windows video player will play the same videos perfectly. I don't know what happened with VLC. but i used the tweak in the article to change the file caching from 300 to 800 and it works now. not sure if it's just masking the problem though. never had to before. unless it has to do with the new hard drive i installed windows on. Hope this helps.

railfan-eric

Yes your comment helped :D
Much better than the non helpful other comments that are demanding me to upload my file, especially since that is quite complicated, and after splitting my files, none of them would render, they all broke using the recommended program gsplit, so I gave up

I think it's more of not facing the facts that VLC for whatever reason, is not able to play any files recorded at 50-60fps, and its quite easy to demonstrate that, just get a good quality camera/camcorder that records in 1080p at 60fps...even a smart ph has that option, then upload it to your computer, then FORCE VLC to play it.......It's going to have major problems doing so lol

shredifier I hear you about uploading all the stuff. I haven't gotten around doing all that on my thread I have. I"m glad my comment was of use. is your videos AVCHD m2ts format too? for whatever reason the end result from Power Director is variable frame rate. Not sure why as i selected the proper frame rate. I suspect the variable frame rate might be part of the problem. funny thing is the originals from the camcorder play fine in the same format. But the originals are 59fps. here's what mediainfo has on mine that don't play as well:

We can't reproduce the issue that's why we need a sample of YOUR files.
