Recording skips first few seconds

I have no idea if this problem exists in other OS:es as I don't run OSX or Linux.

When using the Record option, it always skips the first few seconds. That is, if I start recording at 3:02, the actual recording will start somewhere around 3:05. It's rather unpredictable too, the delay ranges anywhere from 1-3 seconds, so I can't offset the problem by starting to record earlier than I want to. Solution?

For precise record, use the command line, not the record button. This cannot be solved (or rather would be extremely difficult to solve, and I doubt anybody would ever bother).

What command would I use for that? The VideoLAN Wiki says I can use

--sout file/muxer:stream.xyz

for streaming, but it doesn't have any flags for time- or framestamps.

Edit: I havn't used VLC very much, perhaps this is obvious to most.

I don't know about the cause, but I get the same symptom with VLC 3.0.20 on Windows 11. I tried one workaround suggested in this discussion but it didn't work. I did not try downgrading to earlier versions, but I tried OpenShot 3.2.0 instead. It doesn't require you to hand credit card info and it too is amateurish, but I nevertheless managed to trim an MP4 in less than 1 person-hour. I had no prior experience with OpenShot. The worst bug I hit was failure to play audio on the initial launch.
