Video Playback Problems

Postby starvinmarvin » 12 Aug 2016 09:57

We use our Windows 8.1 PC with Windows Media Center to record TV programs. For playback we prefer VLC because it has a graphic equalizer that lets us increase the clarity of dialog in TV shows. When playing back recorded TV shows with VLC we like to use CTRL + Right Arrow (or ALT + Right Arrow) to skip past the commercials. This works quickly and without delay when no other recordings are in progress, but there is a very noticeable delay when skipping ahead more than one CTRL + Right Arrow at a time if another recording is in progress. We know it's not due directly to Windows or to the hard drive we record on because Windows Media Center itself skips ahead without delays even if it's recording two other programs at the same time. Can anyone tell us how to overcome this when using VLC, please? Why is it that Windows Media Center can handle the skip ahead commands instantly but VLC cannot?
