[Solved] Why is streaming this difficult? (Or... is it broken in 2.2.2?)

Postby xluryan » 29 Feb 2016 23:51

Apologies in advance for a slightly frustrated post.

I'm trying something that should be very straightforward and simple. Streaming my webcam (Logitech HD Webcam C525) to other computers on the network.

However, this is not working. At all. And I have become quite frustrated in my unsuccessful attempts over the course of the last several days.

For the time being, I'm just trying to confirm that this is working locally. I have indeed tried this with two computers on the same internal network, and it's not working whatsoever. So I'm trying it on my local PC to see if I can even get that to work.

I've uploaded an image album of my process, including the server setup and client setup. Of course, both are on the same PC.

Album here: http://imgur.com/a/ECEoG. Thanks for your hard work and time.

Thanks for your reply. I followed that thread, but it hasn't helped me accomplish what I'm trying to do.

I have similar settings to what he was using. Here is what I get when I point my web browser to http://localhost:8080/: http://imgur.com/Wadkuvc. Aren't I supposed to see a video feed?

And when I try to play http://localhost:8080 through VLC, nothing plays. It just sits there. So I'm not sure if it's an issue streaming the content, or playing it. But either way I cannot seem to get a video to show up.

Any ideas?

Thanks both for your replies!

Yes, it dawned on me last night that I might be looking at a control interface, versus the actual stream.

I did change the streaming port from 8080 to 8081 and that has worked. Also, prior to this I was selecting a different transcoding option. I wonder if that was affecting my results? My thoughts were: If VLC offers this as an option, it should surely be able to play it over a stream. Apparently not...

Thanks again!
