VLC won't play files from a network share from Mac

Hi all.

In Windows 10 I can't open a video file with VLC 64bit version from a network share from a Mac. I got this message: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file://MAC-COMPUTER/sharedfolder/file.avi' , and in messages: filesystem: failed to read (invalid argument) main error open of 'file://MAC-COMPUTER/sharedfolder/file.avi failed.
Windows Media Player and other players works fine. I can play the same file from a shared folder in a NAS and from a shared folder from a Windows based computer.

Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem. I share movies from Ubuntu 15.10 and when I try to play the files from Windows 10 with VLC, if the file size is large I need to wait 5 minutes before VLC start playing, after that all works ok.
If the file is small, VLC plays just fine ( sometimes the same error as OP have, but usually it works).

Also when VLC waits and do not play the file, is no network traffic going on, so I don't know what the heck is doing.
