How to record screen in latest version of VLC? [2.2.1]

There are a lot of videos on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... encast+vlc) that demonstrate how to record screencast straight from VLC. No need to install screencast application. That works pretty well on those videos. But for me, it either crashes or hangs up.

The process demonstrated in all videos are similar to process given below:

1. Media > Open Capture Device
2. Select Desktop in Capture Mode
3. Select the frame rate
4. Instead of playing, select convert from below.
5. Tinker settings according to will and specify filename.
6. Press start and recording should start. But this does never happens for me.

I think VLC version used in making those videos are prior to mine. What's wrong and how can I screencast with VLC?
