How to stop VLC automatically downloading cover art

Postby gx240 » 01 Oct 2015 06:21

How can I stop VLC from automatically downloading cover art and placing it in the following directories:

C:\Users\USERNAME\Application Data\vlc\art\artistalbum
C:\Users\USERNAME\Application Data\vlc\art\arturl

Where is it getting these images anyway? A lot of the stuff in the "arturl" directory definitely isn't any kind of official cover art.

Preferences -> Interface
Untick Allow Metadata Network Access.
Then save, exit, and restart VLC.

I don't see that option anywhere in Preferences -> Interface.

Is it visible in simple settings or all settings?

Yeah, that actually does... NOTHING. It will still download artwork (even if the file you are playing already has!), and store it on your hard drive.

I have done that. I have even gone as far as completely uninstalling VLC and when reinstalling, denying a prompt to "allow fetching media from Internet". And still, it does. How? I would like to know.
