midi sf2 file setup

Postby alexchevrier » 09 Jul 2015 20:33

Hi,
I'm creating an msi to deploy on our network. Everything is working, but I can't install the sf2 file like I did last time on the last version we pushed on our network.

Since it's been a while and I don't remember how I dit it, I found this page :
https://wiki.videolan.org/midi

I don't see the Fluidsynth option on 2.2.1. Where do I specify the sf2 file I already have ?

Thanks,
Alexandre.

Did you really read the Wiki page ?
Windows binary builds included MIDI support only in versions VLC media player from 1.1.0 through 2.0.8. Starting from version 2.1.0, support was dropped due to security issues.

Yeah... but only the part that explains where to configure it ;)

Guess I'll have to read to all the way to the end.

Thanks for the info.

I can provide such a plugin, if needed.

Please provide a specific direct link for sf2 file needed for VLC 2.08. I have used and donated for many years and really want to use VLC for my MIDI files. I have gone on a 2 hour wild goose chase trying to find anything but advertisements and other player links. I really appreciate your help. Thanks! Craig

Please provide a specific direct link for sf2 file
No direct link but there are many free ones, including some of the famous Merlin ones, available for download here:
http://www.soundfonts.gonet.biz/search. ... o=0&goto=1

They are provided as compressed .sfArk files though, so you need this free utility to unpack them to .SF2:

Hi all. I've the same problem: VLC 2.2.2 unable to play midi file in Windows XP SP2 (but the identical problem i've got with Win7 and Win10 on other PCs). I hate the idea to use another player for only these kind of file... opening midi file, VLC say: http://prntscr.com/a07ddc
Looking on Wiki.videolan.org/midi I can read (and do) what is was written (and done) over here.
VLC haven't the fluisynth codec built-in http://prntscr.com/a07epm
I look for the 2gmgsmt.sf2 in the address showed in the post before, I've got it but i don't know how to use it.
I like VLC and I can't believe there isn't a way to play this little simple easy audio-file on this great player... it's a debacle, a tiny little defeat!
Sorry for my Eng, I'm IT

Angelo

As said in this post:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 28#p427528

So it won't work with v2.2.2.

Okay, so there's no way to play MIDI in VLC on Windows, at all?
The wiki makes it sound like it's not default, but you can install it.

As said before, MIDI support has been dropped after version 2.0.8.

You need to recompile VLC.

What is a security issue with a sound file? This seems bizarre. I installed VLS specifically for midi support. (I last used it on SUSE 9.3 and it had the support then.)

Cool. Did you test a SF3 font too?
