a possible cause + fix ?
whenever I install / update vlc player I always copy a saved version of app data files from a previosu backup, in order to save having to reset my controls layout. so I use backed up vlcrc and qt-interface.ini.
could I be carrying over something that is triggerign this constant cache rebuild on all my installs.
I could make careful notes of controls and preferences , then wipe these & rebuild from scratch so see if that changes anything ?
e.g. browsing through those files with notepad++ I came across a full screen resolution definition of 1920 x 1200, and I have not had a monitor like that for 2 years!. all mine are now 1920 x 1080. so I wonder waht else I may be carrying forward that is out of date e.g. a reference to a plg-in that is no longer used ?
with the qt-interface like - I think I can see the section that defines what controls are shown on screen and in what order, so I guess I can safely cut / paste that section
I have been preserving vlcrc as that holds all my keyboard hotkey definitions but it would not take forever to record and re-enter all those
but before I charge down this route, is there anything in those files that could plausibly inpact on the slow initial launch / cache rebuilding or will I jut be wasting my time ? i do see plugins dialogue and plugins sections in the qt-interface file
