v2.2.0 video freezing from usb capture device

Postby epixxmedia » 03 Mar 2015 02:59

Greetings,

I upgraded to 2.2.0 from 2.1.5 and now I notice that the video input from my usb capture device via directshow is not working anymore, Instead I get a frozen video image. I tried various output size resolution settings from the open capture device>advanced options>device properties but to no avail. I had to uninstall 2.2 and go back to 2.1.5 to get things working again. Please advise as to what I'm doing wrong or maybe fix the issue in a future update.

Win 7 Enterprise, 32bit SP1, 4.00 GB Ram
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz
AMD Radeon HD 6470M

I have the same problem with freezing picture while watching live TV from a Leadtek PVR2000 under Win7. Even after upgrading to 2.2.1 no change. It works fine with 2.1.5 and older. However I have to completely de-install 2.2 to get 2.1.5 working again. I can change channels but I only see the first frame as a still picture. Must be a bug in de DirectShow input.

Yes there is something broken with Directshow Input.

I opened already Ticket 1 month ago, but the VLC Devs had no time to fix it:

@Ultrapower
Maybe you can add to the ticket that other people experience the same problem with different hardware.
I use this feature daily to watch live TV.
If needed I can also make a log.

As requested i opened Ticket for the broken DirectShow Screen:

If one Dev could have a look please ?

It is a general issue with Dshow and VLC 2.2.x :(

Have the same issue, lowering the caching (under 'show more options') from 300ms to 80ms for example solved the problem for me. it's low so it fails from time to time but it's better than nothing and may help debugging as well.

I tried with Live-Caching to 0ms and the Stream was displayed for about 5 seconds and then freeze (could not convert timestamp) :(

Well 0ms caching is a bit harsh, I think it shouldn't work from different reasons, 80ms worked for me but try playing with it... not saying it's a good solution but it may work...

Certainly there is a problem with what is otherwise a great product that so many have used and enjoyed for free for so long.
Yes we need a fix, but don't forget VideoLAN is a non-profit organization, composed of volunteers, developing and promoting free, open-source multimedia solutions so go easy on the pressure.
I re-installed 2.1.5 and am quite happy to wait.

Yes you are absolutely right, but i posted this bug many weeks/months ago.

The only answer i got "someone must code a patch for it"

I'm not a coder and cannot do it. OK you don't want to help me but why do you let all other VLC Users in the World with Capture Devices suffer from this bug ???

In 2.2.x DShow is destroyed :(

Hello! I found this thread by a google search.

I have exactly same problem. DShow video capture works perfect With VLC 2.1.5.
Since I upgraded to 2.2.0 and 2.2.1 dshow doesn't work.

I returned to the version 2.1.5 and DShow works correctly again.

I add:

The manufacturer of the capture or computer aren't related, because I've tried several different combinations:

-Pentium IV + Hauppauge PCI Capture Card in (Win XP)
-Pentium IV + AVerTV PCI Capture Card (Win XP)
-Pentium IV + NPG USB Capture Card (Win XP)
-Notebook Dual Core 2.2 + NPG USB Capture Card (Windows 7)

2.1.5 version always work, but 2.2.0 and 2.2.1 never work.

I have the same issue with various web cameras. I am transcoding to a file and duplicating to the display via direct show. 2.1.3 (and 2.1.5) is working, but 2.2.1 is not.

Anyone of VLC Devs can commit this codes to fix the bug ?
