Does not play MKV files

Postby betinho belga » 17 Mar 2015 18:08

Playing mkv files in VLC?

I have already installed codec pack, shifted in VLC settings, but it does not play mkv.

(I do not speak English, I used google translator to write my question)

Same here. Specifically, reinstalling VLC after upgrading to Windows 7. Windows 7 is a new, "clean" install on a formatted harddrive. System is a dual-core AMD with 4gig memory.

VLC plays the audio from the MKV, but not the video. This in new installs of both the 32- and 64-bit versions. I have tried playing several MKV files; same problem with all of them. The files do play properly in Windows Media Player.

I have previously used VLC under Windows XP Home/SP3 with no problems whatever.

There is a well known and discussed issue of problems with 2.2.0 attempting to play MKV files stored on external media or on the local network, or NAS drive. Its been discussed in several other threads.

If you are experiencing this issue, the suggested workaround is to use the following nightly build that appears to fix the issue of playing an MKV file within VLC that is stored on the network or on an external drive.

It is reported that this issue will be fixed in the 2.2.1 release.

Noted. I'll try the nightly build and see what happens, otherwise I'll just wait for 2.2.1.
