i was just wondering how to get them to work? which codecs do i need and stuff...

Just open them in VLC. They should work by default. Alternatively you can install ffdshow and the latest MPC (it has an mp4 parser now), and they will work. Or you can install Haali's media splitter, and with ffdshow play them in whatever player you like. Or, you can just install QuickTime 7.
