Downloading/Recording streaming video?

Postby hakavon » 24 Oct 2014 01:38

VLC Media Player seems to have the ability to play and store/record streaming video, but I just can't figure out how to make it work.

Would anyone here be willing to just walk me thru this step by step, like I'm a toddler?

Thank you.

Assuming that you can play streaming video the simplest thing to do is enable to "second" toolbar and then select the "record" button.

There are also command line options such that you can build a batch/command/shell file for this purpose but that is somewhat more complex. Take a look at https://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_command-line_help

The problem is, as mentioned, I don't even know how to get the streaming videos to play.

I need someone to take me thru it all, step by step.

OK, Start with the basics and work up. What OS (operating system) are you using ?
VLC treats all video sources as streams. What is the video source that you wish to watch or play or record ?

Example:
You can watch a YouTube video in VLC.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJPSrM_y9ik
or
"C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\vlc\vlc.exe" "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJPSrM_y9ik"
