Playlist as a tree structure

sorry if this has been asked before.

Ive just make the switch from winamp to VLC and love it. I noticed when you load up VLC and add directories to the playlist they are as a tree structure, but onces a playlist is saved it just becomes a big list.

Is there a way to save the tree structure, instead of me having to add the directories each time i load up VLC, i prefer tree structures to lists as they're so easy to navigate through.
