as shown above, I'm able to register only backward and forward button from my bluetooth headset, why isn't the pause/play button allowing me to register?, please help.

Could it be that some other application already registered the play / pause hotkey?

Same issue here with Sony SBH80:
Was able to set the headset's next and previous buttons as global hot keys; however, setting the play/pause doesn't work.

I also tried to modified the corresponding key in vlcrc:
#global-key-play-pause=Media Play Pause

But VLC ignores that setting and will remove the key after closing.

As long as VLC is in foreground, next, previous, and also play/pause DO work fine with the headset's buttons.

ok it turns out it's Intel's Bluetooth stack that won't allow me to register the Pause/Play hotkey, because I tried on a Toshiba laptop with their own Bluetooth stack and it works, I hope Intel fixes this.
