MRL + other weird error

Postby baterax » 18 Feb 2014 10:45

Hi!

Ok so searching around before posting, I've found several people with the MRL error problem.
I've never had any problems with VLC.

Until I upgraded to Windows 8.1. I was running 8 fine...now it won't open videos that are on another computer in the network.
Other players like the default windows media player, can play them fine, so I'm sure it's not a firewall or corrupted videos.
It happens on both 32 and 64 bit versions of VLC.

I was getting the MLR error at first. Now I went into Properties for VLC and set it to run as administrator, and now I get something different:

File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "Z:\xxxx.mov" (Bad file descriptor).
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file:///Z:/xxxx.mov'. Check the log for details.

It says Z: because I mapped Z to an external hard drive hooked up to another computer in my network. Everything is wired, there's no wireless to deal with.
And this was working perfectly before I updated to 8.1.

Any ideas?

To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:
  1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
  2. Set Verbosity to 2
  3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
  4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
  5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [code]and[/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)
Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.

No such file or directory

The file is correctly present?

well hello fellow VCL'ers

i have a problem ive been using .m3u playlist to play movies from my secondary drive
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:0,AJE Video
directory:///D:/My%20Videos/AJE%20Video

i set it up this way so when i add a new video to the folder it will be in the playlist without having to update the .m3u file with the new file and up until 4 days ago it was working just as expected, but now it just opens the playlist and wont play or show files in folder and no warnings or messages.

im running windows xp 32bit home edition sp3 with VCL 2.1.0 installed to C Drive (main)

my thoughts are a windows service that may have disabled...

thank you in advance for any intel

I know for a fact the file is there because other players can open and play it. VLC is the only one that can't.

If you are running VLC as administrator when you mapped the network drive as your regular user it will not work.
