Cannot Read DVD

Postby maiki » 24 Dec 2013 20:18

Previously, I never had a problem reading DVDs with VLC Media Player.

Currently, running Windows 8.1 (newest updates), and the newest version of VLC Media Player for Windows.

I tried to play the DVD of the TV series Homeland, Season 1, Disc one. (Commercial DVD, not a copy.)

Tried several times, and VLC was not able to read the disc at all.

What's going on?

Try VLC 2.1.2 32bits version.

A commercial DVD (Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells II Live - Region 3, 4, 6) was playing perfectly with the previous version of VLC media player. An update message appeared when I started the program. I updated to Version 2.1.2 Rincewind :-( Problem persisted even when system was shut down and restarted.

Error Messages:
Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "D:".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///D:/'. Check the log for details.

Try VLC 2.0.8 32bits version and install it with admin rights.

The workaround that your suggested worked. I wonder when the 64-bit version will become functional again?

Try VLC 2.0.8 32bits version and install it with admin rights.
Or go back to 2.1.1 64 bit as I have done. Works on Windows 7 don't know about 8. Looks like I'm not the only one finding 2.1.2 64 bit can't access the DVD drive/read the disc (can't access media I think was the error message I was getting).
