[SOLVED]VLC 2.1 video displays b&w dots in rectangle shape

Postby Rincewind » 17 Nov 2013 23:47

Been a user for several years now - great product but a nasty hiccup with 2.1.1
I installed it on Tosh M10 (Windows 7) and it works fine

I tried to install it on my aging Tosh Satellite P10 (XP) and disaster.
VLC fires up OK and the drag and drop to a playlist works fine. But when you come to play a movie from the playlist there is video corruption.
Small rectangular black and white blocks of dots

I presume this is something misconnection with the graphics (ATI Mobility Raedon 9000, drivers are up to date).
So I popped into preferences to see if there was something I could turn off.
Unticking use hardware YUV-RGB merely turned the blocks of dots green
Unticking accelerated video output appeared to change the colour again but no essential difference

The videos that dont play with vlc play quite happily with WMP on the same computer.

It works fine on another XP machine (Tosh M5)

So what do I have to do to get this to work?
Thanks for any suggestions

Here is a related post. I'm having the same problem. There is a link in it with something you might try. It didn't work for me. Have you had any success with a resolution? Please share if so. Thanx...

[SOLVED] Change the Output Option (Preferences -> Video) to "OpenGL video output" and it now works so maybe some work to do on defaults?:-)

What are the Pros and Cons of the various alternatives in this drop down list

Glad you solved it. Looks like I forgot to post the link https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=115211 in case someone may still be able to help as the solution you found didn't work for me. Thanx

Bad luck - though I am surprised none of the options in the drop down box worked. It was a pretty comprehensive list.
Anyway, it will get solved in time and you have a version that works

This will be fixed in 2.1.3 and DirectDraw is the solution on XP.
