Flac now juddering when I play with 2.1.1

Postby Kraftwerk » 16 Nov 2013 22:37

Is it possible to find out what version I had before I updated to this latest version and go back to it?

Thanks

The version can you find in Menu -> Help -> About
and over the side
http://download.videolan.org/vlc/
can you get earlier versions.

I'm having the same problem. Seems to be worse at the beginning and end of the tracks. Anybody have any ideas for a fix?

Yes, the issue has been spotted and addressed (see ticket 9442 and ticket 9863) and should now be fixed.

Hopefully there will be a v2.1.2 release soon, meanwhile you can try a v2.1.2 nightly build.

P.S.: Looks like the nightly builds are frozen for some days so you also have to wait for v2.1.2-NB to get unstuck.

I just downloaded and installed 2.1.1 and the problem remains. The first 3 or 4 seconds of a Flac file judder on the first track of every file I've tried. It also happens at the beginning of some (but not all) later tracks. I'll go back to 2.1.0 for now. Just wished to let you know.

Yeah, I used both the 32-bit/64-bit versions and just tried, 2.2.0 (nightly)...that's got worse issues. :) I'll just revert to pre-2 version until the next official release. Thanks though!

The 2.1.0 build is not giving me any problems, so try that. I'm running Win 7 64 bit.

Oh wow! Yes, that does seem to work. I just grabbed it and can't say 100% for sure, but I skipped through about 20 tracks and nothing is juddering and acting weird.

Thanks a lot! :D

Looks like something is still lurking in there... playing a flac 96k/24b with 2.2.0 git 20131126-0016 (who's idea was it to make the version on copy/paste friendly?). nb - it's not all high rate flac, but this one is terrible - and plays fine with fubar...
I'm getting stuttering with these warnings in the log:
main debug: resampling stopped (drift: 69359 us)

Same thing in 2.2.0 11/26 build -- clicks, skips, generally choppy playback. 2.1.2 seems to work fine.

I'm not sure what Juddering is, but when I upgraded to 2.1.1 when I try to move the progress bar thru the video I got all kinds of multi colored bars and pixelation.
I uninstalled 2.1.1 and happened to find a copy of 2.0.3 in my files. Plays perfectly.

A side note on this.
With 2.1.1 installed Zoomplayer also "juddered" with 2.03 installed both worked perfectly.

Raven7 wrote I'm not sure what Juddering is, but
This thread is about audio files, FLAC specifically. Judder is the audio version of jitter- stop, jump- stop, jump... I don't do much with video, but just checked with a DVD and had no problem with v 2.1.0 if you want to try that. A link for prior versions is in second post from the top. I have no answer about Zoomplayer, I'd not heard of it before. 2 comments up from you it was mentioned 2.1.2 seemed to be working. I assume they meant nightly build. I will stick with 2.1.0 for now. Stay well. :)

Re: Flac now juddering when I play with 2.1.1

I have problems playing FLAC files in 2.2.0 Nightly

* ver = 2.2.0-git-20131129-0403 64bit
on Win 7 Ult 64bit w/ AMD A8 + 8GB Ram

* I am also getting "Bad CRC for frame size" and "Frame is too big" errors in 2.2.0 Nightly.

* In 2.1.1, VLC would repeatedly pause for about ¼ of a second - during quiet parts of the audio only
In 2.2.0 VLC seems to repeatedly skip miniscule portions of the file. The event seems much quicker than above (maybe tenth of sec).

* I've seen no difference between playing a file from a LAN SMB location - and playing the file locally

* The issue also occurred in builds from 11/27 and 11/26

* I tried adjusting the Input->Advanced-> caching up to 10000ms

* I tried adjusting the Input -> Network -> MTU to 1500

Maybe something here will help isolate the issue.
As always, your hard work and excellent product are appreciated.

I was having this problem, just installed the 20131130 nightly build, and it works fine now. Thanks!

Edit: Well it's not fixed, but its not on as many songs or as noticeable now.
